NCTHA Co-sponsors Annual Northern Cheyenne Chiefs 4th of July Powwow

The Northern Cheyenne Tribal Housing Authority was again a major co-sponsor for this years Chiefs 4th of July Pow-wow held on July 1, 2, 3 and 4, 2010 at the Kenneth Beartusk Memorial Pow-wow grounds. In addition to helping fund this event, the Housing Authority helped to sponsor the Horseshoe and Softball tournaments along with the annual Fireworks display held on June 30th in downtown Lame Deer. There will be booths set up at the following locations (10:00 AM – 2:00 PM):

  • Cheyenne Depot II – August 9th
  • Birney Town Hall – August 10th
  • Lame Deer Tribal Office – August 11th
  • Crow Park – August 12th
  • Hardin by McDonalds – August 13th

You need the following in order for your application to be complete:

  • Social Security Card
  • Certificate of Indian Blood (CIB)
  • Birth Certificate
  • Immunization Record

5th Annual Chiefs Powwow Softball Tournament Results

The Fifth annual Chief’s Pow-wow Softball Tournament was held on July 4th at Hesteneo’o Park (the People’s Park). Men’s teams from in and around the local area competed in this tournament. (more…)

The 5th Annual Chief’s Pow-wow Horseshoe Tournament was held on July 3rd and 4th at the „Pits‟ at Hesteneo’o Park. Johnson James and Logan Curley Jr, Tournament Directors, noted that there was some very good competition for this year’s event and people from all over Indian Country showed up to compete and show their „stuff‟. The “Indianpreneurship” course is continuously growing and developing new strategies to support individuals who want to create their business. Six additional students have completed their first step in wanting to start a small business and have begun their journey into business. (more…)

“Homebuyer Education Class” is an 8-hour course to help prospective homeowners learn the process of how to purchase a home.

Class topics will include: Are you ready to buy a home?, Managing your Money, Understanding Credit, Obtaining a Mortgage Loan, Shopping for a Home, Protecting your Investment, and other application requirements that are involved in the Home Buying process. (more…)

On April 12, 2010, President Leroy Spang, Vice-President Joe Fox Jr, Members of the Tribal Council, NCTHA Board of Commissioners, NCTHA Staff along with several State and Federal dignitaries took part in a Ribbon-Cutting ceremony at the West Entrance to the Northern Cheyenne Reservation. The nature of this ceremony was to unveil the new Tribal Welcome Sign(s) located on Highway 212. (more…)

NCTHA Delegation Attends MT/WYO Coalition Meeting at State USDA Office Coalition

On March 17, 2010, Board Chairman Claude Leedom, Executive Director Lafe Haugen and a delegation from the Northern Cheyenne Tribal Housing Authority, attended a Montana/ Wyoming Housing Coalition Meeting at the State USDA office in Bozeman, Montana with the newly appointed State Director, Mathew Jones. The basis for the trip was to establish Tribal relationships with the newly appointed State Director and to open up a dialogue for many funding opportunities for the Northern Cheyenne Tribe and the other 9-Tribes in Montana and Wyoming. Mr. Jones was accompanied at this meeting by his staff of Deborah Chorlton, Housing Program Director and staff from the Billings office including Gloria Hawkins. Matt worked with Richard Litsey in Max Baucus‘s office prior to him moving back to Montana.

NAHASDA Negotiated Rulemaking Committee Holds First Meeting

Scottsdale, Ariz – The Native American Housing Assistance & Self-Determination Reauthorization of 2008 Negotiated Rulemaking Committee held their first meeting on March 9-10, 2010 in Scottsdale, Ariz. The Committee consists of 25 tribal representatives from small, medium and large tribes from geographically diverse regions of the country, and two Housing and Urban Development (HUD) representatives: Sandra Henriquez, Assistant Secre-tary for Public and Indian Housing and Rodger J. Boyd, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Native American Programs.
On the first day of the meeting, committee members made introductions and expressed their expectations from the Rule-making process. They then began the process of developing a committee Charter, outlining the goals and principles of the Committee.
