ICDBG Weatherization Projects Underway

July 19th, 2010

The Northern Cheyenne Tribal Housing Authority’s Indian Community Development Block Grant (ICDBG) Weatherization project is well underway. The oldest houses built by the Housing Authority back in the late 1960’s, early 1970’s, are the focal point of the ICDBG funding received last year along with the Stimulus ICDBG funding.

All of the 12-01 Mutual Help homes located in Busby are just about completely finished under this Weatherization project. The 12-02 and 12-03 homes located in Lame Deer and Ashland are the next homes under this project that are currently receiving Windows, Doors, Roofs, Plumbing and Electrical work. These projects were the first Mutual Help homes built by the Housing Authority. These units are in dire need of weatherization as the cost to heat these houses with Propane and Electricity continually increases year after year. The Tribal Council decided when this money became available, these first projects would receive the funding for Weatherization purposes. These 29 houses should be completed by the end of 2010 as the Housing Authority is on a timeframe to expend this much needed funding.

The Housing Authority Force Account crews will be do-ing all of the work with the exception of the new Steel Roofs and Rain Gutters that are being installed by local Indian Contractors. Letters are being sent out to all of the Homeowners in these units reminding them that they must submit family Composition information to our office prior to any work being started. Income eligibility is a must in order to be eligible for this work. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this project, please contact Rachael Two Two or Palmeda Fisher at 477-6419.
